Explore Northern Okinawa’s Blue Zone: Hidden Culture, Nature & Local Stories Few Visitors See

What Makes My Walking Tour Unique

✔ A native English speaker with deep local knowledge

I’m originally from Canada and, when I’m not hosting tours, I teach English online. I also speak Japanese and have a deep interest in Japanese and Okinawan culture and nature, allowing me to share stories and context in an easy, natural way.

✔ I don’t just guide here — I live here

Unlike most tour guides, I live in Ōgimi Village. You may meet our neighbors along the way, and I’ll take you to the paths where I run with my puppy, Akiha—places most visitors never get to see.

✔ A unique perspective on life in Ōgimi

Having lived in mainland Japan (Saitama Prefecture) for three years, Canada (Ontario), and Okinawa for over three years, I offer a personal perspective on what makes life in Ōgimi so special and how it differs from other places in Japan and abroad.

How This Ōgimi Walking Tour Came to Life

This tour was created to help visitors truly connect with northern Okinawa — its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning nature.

Many travelers come eager to explore, yet miss the deeper stories hidden beyond Ogimi’s quiet streets. We want every guest to leave with more than just photos — a genuine understanding of what makes this place so special.

Ogimi is a long trip for most, so we aim to make it worth your while. Join us and discover the hidden heart of Okinawa that few visitors ever see.

  • If we determine the weather is unsafe to conduct the walking tour, your booking will be canceled and you will receive a future credit valid for 12 months.

Credits are valid for one year, fully transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. They are issued after the final safety check, not based on early forecasts.

We cannot cover accommodation, transport, or other personal expenses. Personal delays or cancellations (e.g., missed buses, car troubles) are not eligible.

    Thank you for understanding!

  • Because we host only one retreat or walking tour per day and prepare everything specifically for your visit, all bookings are non-refundable. Your reservation blocks the entire day exclusively for your group, and preparation of ingredients, materials, and scheduling begins immediately after booking.

For this reason, we offer Future Credit in place of refunds, except in the case of organizer-initiated cancellations.

    • ✅ If you notify us at least 7 days in advance that you are unable to attend, we will issue a Future Credit valid for one year.

    • ✅ In the case of guest illness, please notify us at least 48 hours in advance, and we will offer a Future Credit.

    • ✅ Future Credit is transferable and may be passed on to friends, family members, or resold (including via Facebook groups).
If you transfer your spot, please contact us in advance and provide the full name and contact details of the person attending.

    • ❌ Same-day cancellations, no-shows, late arrivals, or delays caused by personal circumstances are not eligible for Future Credit.

      Organizer-Initiated Cancellations

    • If we must cancel due to unforeseen circumstances on our end (such as our own emergency or illness), guests will receive a full refund of the tour/retreat fee or may choose to reschedule to another available date.

    • Please note that we are not responsible for transportation, accommodation, or other related costs incurred as a result of the cancellation.

  • Unfortunately, no. Harrison is the sole guide for our tour, and to ensure both quality and safety, we limit the group size to a maximum of six participants.

  • You’ll get a guided walk through Ogimi’s beautiful village paths, learning about local history, culture, nature, and the secrets behind Ogimi’s Blue Zone lifestyle.

  • Absolutely! Children are welcome, though the walk may include some uneven ground, encounters with local wildlife, and unpredictable circumstances that come along with island life.

  • Unfortunately, we’re not able to arrange that.
We understand that many visitors come to Ōgimi, known as the “longevity village,” hoping to meet centenarians and hear their stories. However, from our experience, some elders have shared that they feel tired of being asked the same questions—like “What’s your secret to longevity?”—repeatedly.

We deeply respect their wish for a peaceful life. In fact, the local tourism association mentioned that in the past, some elders who hosted visitors experienced a decline in health afterward, as talking with strangers can take a lot of energy.

That said, we’re always happy to share their culture, stories, and the wisdom behind their longevity on their behalf through our wellness experiences. 🌿

  • Parts of Ogimi have slopes and uneven paths. Let us know your needs when booking, and we’ll do our best to adjust the route.

  • Of course! We love when guests capture the beauty of Ogimi. Just be respectful around local homes and sacred sites. Ask your guide for further details.

  • Please try to arrive on time. If you anticipate being late, contact us as soon as possible. Arrival more than 30 minutes after the scheduled time may result in cancellation.

  • Unfortunately, no. Haruka offers the 3-Hour Okinawa Wellness Retreat, which includes a cooking experience, but she does not offer lunch alone.

We’ve put together our guide on where to stay, eat, and explore in Ōgimi. Click here to see what works best for you!
